it all started from the calling of god


From 1987, a lot of Chinese student flooded into Australia from Mainland China. Most of these students never had the opportunity to hear the Gospel. In early 1988, God moved the 74-years-old Rev. Guo Cheng and a group of believers to pray for Chinese students' ministry and gave them the "God Loves China" (主爱中华）vision. After more than a year's preparation, on July 9, 1989, the Chinese Sunday worship was started under the name "华恩堂“ (Hua En) in Chinese at the Swanston Street Church of Christ hall.

In the following years, our church enjoyed the blessing of the Lord and developed rapidly. By the beginning of 1997, with the continuous spread of the Gospel, the attendance of Sunday worship had reached more than 150. As the Chinese population in the eastern suburbs increased, Rev. Guo Cheng had a vision to open a new church branch in the eastern part of Melbourne. Then one year's preparation, on February 8, 1998, Rev. Guo Cheng and about eight families began their first Sunday Worship in Burwood, Victoria, at the church hall of Anglican Church of the Ascension. 

Since June 2003, our church has been formally registered under the name of Overseas Chinese Christian Church Melbourne Eastern Ministry. Currently our church regularly have 30-40 attendances each Sunday with preaching in Mandarin. We have started English Worship since the 1st of March, 2020. ​

  1. ​​To Preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to the teaching of the Bible; to lead people to the Lord and to assemble with each other in Christ;
  2. To Build the Body of Christ by the Holy Spirit, and to worship and serve the living true God together.
  3. ​To hold the vision of "God loves China" and to lay emphasis on preaching the Gospel to the Chinese community

  1. ​ WE BELIEVE THAT THE OLD AND NEW TESTAMENTS ARE A COMPLETE REVELATION OF GOD AND SHALL BE THE HIGHEST AUTHORITY FOR OUR BELIEF AND LIFE. 
  2. WE BELIEVE IN THE ONE AND ONLY TRUE GOD WHO WAS, IS, AND EVER SHALL BE; WHO IS THE CREATOR AND LORD OF THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE. HE EXISTS IN THE TRINITY OF FATHER, SON AND HOLY SPIRIT. 
  3. WE BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST WHO BECAME INCARNATE OF THE VIRGIN MARY BY THE HOLY SPIRIT, AND WHO HAS PERFECT DIVINE AND HUMAN NATURES. HE WAS CRUCIFIED AND DIED ON THE CROSS AND ON THE THIRD DAY, ROSE AGAIN FROM THE DEAD, ASCENDED IN HEAVEN AND WILL COME AGAIN IN THE FUTURE. HE IS THE ONLY SAVIOUR OF ALL MANKIND AND THE HEAD OF THE CHURCH. 
  4. WE BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT, THE ADVOCATE, WHO REVEALS THE TRUTH OF GOD AND GLORIFIES CHRIST, INDWELLING AND MOVING AMONGST BELIEVERS. 
  5. WE BELIEVE THAT MAN WAS ORIGINALLY CREATED IN THE IMAGE OF GOD. IN ADAM, MAN HAD FALLEN INTO SIN AND NOW IS IN EXTREME NEED OF GOD'S SALVATION. 
  6. WE BELIEVE IN "BEING JUSTIFIED BY FAITH", AND THAT THE CHRISTIANS, BORN AGAIN BY THE HOLY SPIRIT NOW COMBINE IN CHRIST TO FORM THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH. 
  7. WE BELIEVE IN THE RESURRECTION OF THE BODY AND BEING SUBJECT TO RIGHTEOUS JUDGMENT, AND THAT, THE RIGHTEOUS HAVE ETERNAL LIFE WHILE SINNERS AD DEMONS WILL BE PUNISHED IN THE LAKE OF FIRE. ​​
